If you wish, you can listen the pronunciation of specific words or phrases and tune your app so that the phrases or words you’re already familiar with never show up again. If necessary, you can add the specific phrases you need and link them to the locations where you want to use them later on.

How does WalkTalk differ from other language-learning apps?

WalkTalk is the only geolocation-based language app in the Baltic region. This means that WalkTalk is not yet another dictionary on your mobile device. It detects your location and offers relevant dialogues and phrases you might need in a specific situation. Right phrases in the right situation.

Who is the WalkTalk’s target audience?

WalkTalk is suitable for anyone who wants to practice their Estonian or Russian in real life. It is intended for those who already speak basic language (at A1 level) to advance their skill up to B1 level in real-life situation.

When will WalkTalk become available for everyone?

In fall 2017, the prototype for Estonian and Russian languages will become available for the first test users. Based on their feedback, we will improve and update the app to make it available for everyone by the end of the year.

WalkTalk team

The technology that makes the learning of a foreign language natural again.

prototron_mentors

WalkTalk is an Estonian start-up developing language-learning technology. The founders won Narva Protron Hackathon in 2016. Our mission is to help thousands of Estonian and Russian speakers living in Estonia become more courageous to speak with each other.

 

Once we launch this project in small Estonia, we are planning to expand it worldwide. This especially relevant for communities with similar language learning issues, such as Turks in Germany or Spanish-speaking people in the US. WalkTalk makes it possible!

Ants Liivat

CTO

System Architect. As a former chief of marketing and e-channels at Tallinn University of Technology, he knows how to build information systems, both in theory and practice. Founder and leader of Levipro, an IT company, he has gained an experience in building web applications for successful businesses in Estonia.

Tarvo Sarmet

CMO

Linchpin. He has 15 years of experience as Head of Marketing of SEB bank’s Internet banking and publishing for international magazines. He used to consult town mayors the candidate for Prime Minister. He graduated from the University of Technology and obtained his Master of Social Sciences (MA)  from University of Tallinn.

Aleksandr Aidarov, PhD

CLO/linguist

The author of the app’s concept who fluently speaks four languages and studies contextual language learning. He has a 15 years-long experience in social research and analysis and has also worked for 8 years as a lecturer at the Technical University of Tallinn. Today, Aleksandr works as an adviser for the Estonian Ministry of Culture in the department of cultural diversity.

Matthias Klitzsch

Designer

An Architect from Germany. He is still on the books of the Bauhaus but loves Estonia. At night, he designs the new Linnahall project to a new one in the team of Alliance Architects. At daytime, he designs the WalkTalk app and plans to extend it the Central European market.
